Episode 17 with Minerva Daisy

Hello again from the team here at America’s Next Pop Icon, where you can get your weekly dose of vocal tips, news, and more!

This week on Iconic News, Jessica has an inspiring message to share with us. She tells us that singer Alisha Keys has recently publicly discussed the pressure she’s felt throughout her highly successful career to create the perfect image, and the distress that has caused. Well, now she’s decided to embrace the perfectly imperfect, stating that that’s where the magic truly lies. She’s even went as far as removing the word “perfect” from her vocabulary! We couldn’t agree with this more, and think it’s a powerful message for us all to consider in all areas of life.

Next up, we have singer-songwriter Minerva Daisy with us all the way from the UK. The songstress, who has captivated us with her lovely voice and exquisite piano playing, gives us the backstory behind her song “Call Me the Criminal.” “At the time when I wrote it, I was just coming out of quite a toxic relationship,” she stated. “A lot of the time, I would be made to feel guilty about something I hadn’t done, so it’s about being called a criminal when I wasn’t.” Check her out on Instagram here.

Vocal coach extraordinaire Lee Lontac also joined us in the studio to give us some much appreciated vocal tips and tricks. When we asked what features make the best singers, his answer was simple and straightforward – storytelling and style. These qualities are what give singers the power to connect with their audiences, something that pure technical ability doesn’t necessarily do.

That’s all for now – see you next time!
